2008-2009 School Year

NEW STUDENT REGISTRATION for Grades K-12 will be held on Thursday, August 7, and Friday, August 8 .  Grades 7-12 will be at the Macomb Jr/Sr High School, 1525 S. Johnson St. from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Grades 4-6 will be at Edison School, 521 S. Pearl St. from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.    Grades K-3 will be at Lincoln School, 315 N. Bonham from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.   

REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTERING SCHOOL:  *In order to enter kindergarten a child must be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2008.  *All students must have a certified copy of their birth certificate on file.  *For consideration of student fee and lunch waivers, please bring proof of income to registration.
IMPORTANT HEALTH REQUIREMENTS PRIOR TO THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL: In the past, physical examinations and immunizations were required for kindergarten, fifth, and ninth grade students.  Starting this year, physical examinations and immunizations must be up-to-date according to the State of Illinois requirements PRIOR to the first day of school for kindergarten, sixth and ninth grades.  Students entering sixth grade who had health exams last year are not required to receive another this year.  Students must provide proof that these requirements have been met prior to attending classes starting Wednesday, August 20, 2008.  Children entering kindergarten are now required to have an eye exam.  Children in kindergarten, second, and sixth grades must present proof of dental exam.

9th Grade ORIENTATION will be on Friday, August 15 , at 1:00 p.m . in the Fellheimer Auditorium.  Schedules for grades 10, 11, & 12 may be picked up after 1:30 p.m. on August 15 in the MJSHS Guidance Office. 
7th Grade ORIENTATION will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 10:00 - 11:00 am. in the Fellheimer Auditorium.  Schedules for grade 8 may be picked up from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on August 13 in the MJSHS Commons.
EARLY CHILDHOOD SCREENING (AGES 0-4) will be held on Wednesday, August 20, by appointment only at MacArthur Early Childhood Center, 235 W Grant.  Please call 833-4273 after August 1 for an appointment.
KINDERGARTEN VISITATION: Kindergarten children along with their parents are invited to visit their classroom and meet their teacher anytime between 8:00-11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20.
THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL for:

  • Grades 1-12 will be Wednesday, August 20, 2008.   2 hour early dismissal
  • Kindergarten will be Thursday, August 21.  
  • Prekindergarten and Preschool students will be Tuesday, September 2 . 

Edison School Students: Parent drop off is along Pearl St. and teachers will guide students into building.
BACK-TO-SCHOOL NIGHT:

  • MacArthur Early Childhood Center Open House; Thursday, September 25, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
  • Lincoln School will be Tuesday, August 19, at 6:00 p.m.
  • Edison School will be Thursday, August 28, at 7:00-8:00 p.m.
  • Macomb Junior High School will be Monday, August 25, at 6:30 p.m.
  • Macomb Senior High School will be Wednesday, August 27, at 7:00 p.m.

THE REGULAR DAILY SCHEDULE is: 
MacArthur Early Childhood Center (half-day preschool sessions) 8:00 - 10:30 a.m. & 12:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.;    (full-day prekindergarten and preschool sessions) 8:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.:
Lincoln School (kindergarten through 3rd grade) 7:55 a.m. - 2:40 p.m.;
Edison School (4th through 6th grade) 8:00 a.m. - 2:50 p.m.;
Macomb Jr. High School (7th and 8th grade) 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.; 
Macomb Sr. High School (9th through 12th grade) 8:05 a.m. - 3:05 p.m.
REGISTRATION FEES are as follows: $35 for half-day preschool; $50 for all-day preschool through 6th grade;  $70 for 7th & 8th; $75 for 9-12th grades.  Registration fees will be collected at the time of registration and may be paid by check payable to the Macomb School District.
PARTICIPATION FEES (grades 7-12): $30.00 per extracurricular activity are to be paid prior to beginning activity, but not to exceed $90.00 per student per school year.  There is no participation fee for Student Council, National Honor Society, SADD, or Class Officers.  All fees must be paid in full or an approved current payment plan must be in place before participation in any extracurricular activity will be permitted.
THE CAFETERIA will be open beginning the first day of school. Prices for breakfast (including milk) will be $1.00 for preschool through grade 12 and $1.35 for adults.  Prices for lunch (including milk) will be $1.60 for preschool, $1.75 for Kindergarten-3rd, $1.80 for grade 4-6, $2.00 for grade 7-12, and $2.30 for adults. The cost for milk only is $.30. Sack lunches may be brought from home. All other questions should be directed to Aramark at 837-2335.
BUS TRANSPORTATION will begin the first day of school, Wednesday, August 20, 2008, for those students who are eligible.  Students will not be expected to walk more than 1.5 miles.  Bus Stop lists will be posted at each school.  All other questions regarding bussing should be directed to the Bus Garage at 836-6806.
